It covers 60 km2 and has 1,500 inhabitants. Gračišće is a medieval town rich in history and culture. 2000 years ago, the ancient Gauls gave it the name Gallignan. At the turn of the 6th to the 7th century, Slavs began to immigrate to Istria and renamed Gallignana to Gračišće. In written monuments, Gračišće was mentioned for the first time in 1199.
